The one and only horse study that has been published in a peer reviewed scientific journal used the high quality, highly bioactive and efficacious Biolane brand of green lipped mussel powder.
We are suggesting this publication should be read by the scientifically oriented reader because it is the one and only scientific publication on the efficacy of green lipped mussel in horses anywhere in the world, (not because Joint Rejuvenate uses the Biolane brand of green lipped mussel). "Healtheries" who produce the Biolane brand of green lipped mussel are quite understandably wanting the reader to understand the research was done on their high quality brand of green lipped mussel powder. There are many green lipped mussel products being marketed for horses, dogs and people. The bioactivity and thus efficacy of green lipped mussel powders vary. It is a biological truism that heat damages the active constituents of many naturally occurring products, including green lipped mussel. Not every green lipped mussel product is assayed for its anti inflammatory activity so it is difficult for the consumer to know the quality of the green lipped mussel powder they are buying. It should not be assumed that other brands of green lipped mussel powder are going to have the same degree of efficacy as the Biolane Brand of green lipped mussel powder.
The publication "Cayzer J, Hedderley D, and Gray S. Equine Vet J. 2012 Jul;44(4):393-8. doi: 10.1111 /j.2042-3306.2011.00455.x. Epub 2011 Sep 1. "A randomised, double-blinded, placebo-controlled study on the efficacy of a unique extract of green-lipped mussel (Perna canaliculus) in horses with chronic fetlock lameness attributed to osteoarthritis." used the Biolane brand of Green Lipped mussel.
For those of you interested in science but without the time to devote to digesting the publication, what follows is a summary. In 2012 the results of a 4 year Massey University New Zealand study was published in the Equine Veterinary Journal. This study used the Biolane brand of Green lipped mussel produced by New Zealand company "Healtheries". The study showed that when horses with fetlock arthritis were treated with 25mg/kg of the Biolane brand of green-lipped mussel their level of lameness decreased. Please note that Joint Rejuvenate for Horses does not use the Biolane brand of Green-lipped Mussel. We are quoting the above study because it is the one and only research study on horses that have been published in a scientific journal. The Equine Veterinary Journal is arguably the premier horse veterinary research publication in the world. This research was reviewed critically by leading veterinary experts before being published in this journal. This research on green-lipped mussel (using the Biolane brand) has attracted significant interest from horse experts in the USA, Britain, and Europe.
As a result of this equine veterinary journal publication leading trainers of racehorses, pacers, trotters, show jumpers, and eventers and their veterinary advisers are looking more closely at incorporating green lipped mussel powder into their feeding and medication program.
Green-lipped mussel is a source of the highly absorbable phospholipid-bound form of omega 3 fatty acids. It also is a source of raw materials that help the injured joint repair at a microscopic level.

I have a horse who has had stomach ulcers in the past. My vet has told me to avoid feeding phenylbutazone ( Bute) as an anti inflammatory and to feed only Joint rejuvenate at the maximum dose rate.

"Joint Rejuvenate" has a place in your horse feeding regime if you want wear and tear on joints minimised. Works best when fed in conjunction with pentosan polysulphate injections ( Cartrophen, Pentosan, Arthropen are some of the trade names) . Joint Rejuvenate is a powder to be added to your feed. The makers offer a free 15 minute consultation with a vet ( value approx $90) . Call +61 425310625

This is a very well-researched product. Rather than something to merely treat symptoms ... its focus is on the repair of your animal's joints. A worthy goal!
